OUR STORY

From Laredo to the World!

MEET THE WORLD
College Counseling & Beyond

I grew up in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico with my family. We moved to the U.S. at the age of fifteen without speaking much English and unaware of how the American education system worked.  Because there were so many students in my high school, the counselors were extremely busy to help us individually.
That’s when I realized that if I wanted to succeed, I’d have to prepare on my own. So I immerged myself in the world of scholarships: analyzing, reading, looking for mentors… until I achieved my objective: A scholarship to study journalism at The University of Texas at Austin.
From there I volunteered in Central America, learned Portuguese in Brazil, worked at a radio station in Spain, traveled to India as a missionary, earned a human rights fellowship in Denmark, and earned a paid internship in the U.S. Congress.
And everything with SCHOLARSHIPS (More than $70 thousand to be precise)
But how could someone with high 80s and 90s without speaking English well was able to achieve such a thing? That’s when I decided to spend my life helping the youth drafting their own personalized strategy to achieve their objectives. Working as a college adviser, and subsequently as an admissions officer, allowed me to understand the system and guide hundredths of students, many of them have already graduated from college.
Another scholarship brought me to Shanghai, China, where I pursued a master’s degree and reinvented myself as a professional. I currently work at one of the best high schools in Mainland China guiding Chinese students to pursue their education in the U.S. and Canada. Thanks to technology, Meet the World is now possible online.

faq's

Is a private college counselor only for excellent students who want to go to prestigious colleges? I have 80s and 90s, can you also help me?
Since applications to colleges, summer programs and scholarships are becoming more and more competitive, it’s important to understand the options you have to reach your goals. You can benefit greatly from having personal college counselor who can help you design your own personalized strategy so your profile can shine among your peers.
We have counselors in my school, what services does a private college counselor offer that my school counselors don’t?
Remember that your school counselors play a vital role in your journey to graduate from high school and go to college. However, usually school counselors are responsible of many tasks, such as preparing student schedules, taking care of disciplinary of family issues. A private college counselor doesn’t substitute your school counselors, but supplements what they do by focusing exclusively in your own development and success in the college preparation, application, and admission to universities. When looking for a private college counselor, make sure he/she follows the ethical norms of the National Association of College Counselors or the Independent Educational Consultants Association. Eduardo is member of both organizations.
Can you help students who are not from Laredo?
Absolutely! Our sessions are on Skype or WhatsApp and give us the versatility to meet at a convenient time for both of us. You can schedule an appointment HERE
How many universities should I apply to?
It’s not about how many schools you apply to, but how your school list matches your personality, goals and the quality of applications you send. Based on your answers to the questionnaire, our conversations, my research I’ll provide you with a list of universities based on your interests, your needs and the qualities that you and your family consider important.
I need a lot of financial aid to be able to go to school. Do you think I should apply to schools even if they are too expensive and my family cannot afford tuition?
College expenses represent an important factor when choosing a college. However, with the necessary planning and preparation you may find the funds to cover your costs. I can guide you through the scholarship and financial aid process. I keep my group of students small and our sessions one-on-one to give you the personalized attention you need during the college admissions process. Every student is different and that’s why I customize the service to meet the needs of each student.
I don’t think I qualify to financial aid because my parents make too much money. Can I still apply to scholarships?
There are merit scholarships that evaluate your academic performance or your abilities in certain areas, such as sports, music and fine arts. I can help you design a personalized strategy to make your profile more competitive when applying to scholarships and prestigious programs.
